The Summer Series at The Turnbull Building

We’ve partnered with our friends at The Turnbull Building to offer The Summer Series - a day of fun-filled classes in their beautiful space.  All classes will be set in front of a summer install by the talented Ashley Folkner & Southerly Flower Farm. Snacks will be provided by Events With Taste Catering. You won’t want to miss it!

Join us at one of these great classes below. Tickets can be bought for each individual class separately or bundled together for a full day’s experience, which can be purchased here.

All classes take place at The Turnbull Building, located at 1401 Fort Street.

Beginner Handlettering
10 am to 12:15pm

Love all the cute lettering pieces you see in home décor elements? Want to learn to make your own pieces to decorate your house, give as gifts, or gussy up your snail mail?

Also referred to as “modern calligraphy,” hand-lettering or brush lettering is a popular form of writing seen around DIY projects on Pinterest and Instagram. It has a more whimsical, loose feel than standard fountain pen calligraphy and is popularly used for wedding invitations, thank-you cards, place-settings, etc.

Join us for a workshop to learn the basics of hand lettering and more. We will move from manipulating the pens to the basic brush lettering script alphabet. The class will also address letter connections and basic flourishes. Plus, you will learn some tricks of the trade to practice smarter, not harder!

Supplies: All supplies are included. Each participant will receive three pens and tracing paper to keep practicing at home.

Teacher: Lesley Miller of Lettering with Lesley

Summer Garden Cocktails
1 pm to 2:30 pm

In this cocktail class, we will be discussing, making, and tasting drinks inspired by your garden! These drinks are the perfect thing to serve on your patio.

Participants will learn the basic skills needed to replicate two tasty drinks at home, a Basil and French Vanilla French 75 and a Garden Whiskey Smash, as well as fun ways to impress your friends and families with homemade ingredients and fun garnishes. Everyone will also learn how to make a shrub (a vinegar based syrup), and take some home!

At the end of the class, everyone will leave with recipe cards and instructions on how to impress your family and friends!

Floral Hand Embroidery
3 PM to 5 PM

Join us in the beautiful Turnbull Building to create a hand embroidery sampler using foundational stitches (the practice round). Then put those techniques to use while stitching a workshop exclusive design using the amazing flowers from Southerly Flower Farm. You'll be encouraged to experiment with color, texture and various stitch combinations to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Bring along an interesting found object or objects, no bigger than 2"x 2", to incorporate into your design. (Things such as dried tree bark or flowers, an interesting leaf, or a scrap of wind-blown mesh...)

This workshop is open to stitchers of all levels! Just bring yourself and your imagination! All supplies included.
