American Sign Language 101

  • Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise 1301 Market Street, Suite 100 Chattanooga, TN 37402 (map)

Have you ever wanted to have a conversation without actually saying a word?  If so, this class is for you! Learn the basics of sign language by exploring the alphabet and basic social and conversational phrases.  In this class, you'll also be able to gain basic skills needed to communicate better with the Deaf community while engaging in conversation and discussions about Deaf culture.

Note: this is not a certification course.

About the teacher:

For more than 20 years, Ethan Pope has been involved in sign language.  During this time, he worked for the Deaf Division of the Family Service Agency of Chattanooga for over six years.  Ethan's experience in sign language has given him the opportunity to travel and work in other places like New York, California and even sunny St. Thomas.  Please note: He is in no way related to the man who signed at Nelson Mandela's funeral.
