In this class you will be introduced to a short history of printmaking, and will be able to learn about and experiment with two very different techniques. This class is for beginning to intermediate level artists. No experience is required. All supplies are included in the supply fee, and no outside materials are required.
Classes run every Monday in October starting October 8 from 10am to 12pm.
In sessions 1 & 2 we will explore the fun world of the modern “Gelli” plate, creating singular-edition “monoprints” and/or unique decorative papers that could be used later for mixed media works, drawings, etc. Gelli printing lends itself to being slightly more spontaneous and experimental and can be a good way to “loosen up” creatively.
Sessions 3 & 4 will be focused on a slightly more traditional and planning-oriented multi-print process of relief printing from our own carved linoleum block designs. Students will be introduced to relief printing concepts and guided through each step of the process from their initial drawing to finished product. Depending upon how you’d like to use your prints, you will have the option of making a limited edition of handmade cards or signed art prints to sell or give as gifts.
