Teacher Spotlight: Elizabeth Lawrensen
Our growing class list would be quite difficult to pull off without the awesome instructors - and businesses - we've been so honored to meet. We'd like to give you the same opportunity to get to know our Chattery teachers a bit better.
Meet Elizabeth Lawerensen, owner of Terra Somnium. She'll be teaching us all about how to make and maintain a terrarium.
Elizabeth Lawrensen is a local musician, teacher, and plant lover. She has been making terrariums for 2 years, inspired initially by hiking in the woods and musing over plants with a friend. She created the small business Terra Somnium, selling moss terrariums of many varieties at the Chattanooga Market. She has researched moss extensively and has also done many experiments to find out what will yield the best result in creating living moss terrariums as well as moss art.
How did you get started in your profession?
I have always loved hiking and being out in nature. A friend and I began collecting very small plant samples and seeing if they would survive if we re-planted them in various habitats in our home. We became obsessed, and thus began the terrarium building.
Why do you love Chattanooga?
I love that it has a small town feel, but is big enough to still put on some really great cultural events. It's also in the middle of many beautiful mountains, which I love.
