Teacher Spotlight: Ethan Pope
Our growing class list would be quite difficult to pull off without the awesome instructors we've been so honored to meet. We'd like to give you the same opportunity to get to know our Chattery teachers a bit better.
So, here are four questions to help get to know our American Sign Language teacher, Ethan Pope.
How did you get started with sign language?
It all began as a child. I was fascinated with the art of seeing people communicating with their hands one with another. It truly captivating my attention and I asked my parents to purchase me books on the subject. Later on, during initial college years, I enrolled in two years of sign-language classes to enhance my skills and broaden my knowledge and base of understanding about both the language and culture.
Why do you love Chattanooga?
Chattanooga is one of this country’s “best kept secrets” in many ways, i.e., the arts, entertainment and/or culture events, affordable nice restaurants/dining establishments; it’s people; housing and the overall cost of living here. It’s hard to match and/or beat these cost or the offerings herein … For the most part, the people tend to be very genuine, hospitable and caring one for another.
What's one topic you'd like to learn through The Chattery?
I would love to learn more about the step-by-step processes related to establishing one’s own business, i.e., the paperwork, legal proceedings, etc. Also, the procedures for establishing a will or trust.
What's something someone would be surprised to learn about you?
I am extremely both introverted and extroverted!
