Join us for a three-part series all about the government. These classes are non-partisan and for informational purposes only.

All classes are free and take place at ArchWay on Glass, located at 2523 Glass Street.

How well do you know the United States government? Do you know how the government makes decisions on what affects you?

Join us for a basic lesson on the federal government. This non-partisan look at our nation’s government will explain everything you need to know about:

  • The branches of government
  • Bills becoming law
  • Separation of powers
  • Voting
  • How to make your voice heard

About the teachers:

Bo Chamberlain currently teaches 8th grade American History at Signal Mountain Middle/High school. Bo is in his 15th year teaching and has also taught World Geography and English.

Jamie Petty currently teaches 6th grade World History at Normal Park Museum Magnet School. He has several years of experience teaching high school government and economics courses.

State of tennessee

How well do you know the workings of Tennessee’s legislature? Do you know how the legislature’s decisions affect you personally?

Join us for a basic lesson about the Tennessee legislature. We’ll take a non-partisan look at this aspect of our state government and enjoy an interactive conversation about:

  • The structure of the legislature
  • Bills becoming law
  • How to make your voice heard

Teo Valdes is on the board of the Highland Park Neighborhood Association and teaches language classes for La Paz Chattanooga and the Chattanooga School of Languages. In the past he taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels and also has experience from the business world where he worked in Learning and Development.

Chattanooga & Hamilton County

Do you understand how your local government works? In this class we’re going to look into the Hamilton County and City of Chattanooga government. We’ll talk through the roles of the County and City Governments, the way that ordinances are passed, and also how to make your own perspectives and preferences known to our local representatives.

In this class we will discuss the basics of:

  • How the City and County governments are structured
  • How the City and County governments work together
  • How to make your voice heard
