About the teacher:

Personal Photo with Evi.jpg

Kory Russell graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in visual art in 2004. Since then he has continued his artistic practice off and on while working, first as a graphic artist for four years, and then a firefighter for eight. He left firefighting to pursue art full time in 2016.

Kory sees an artist’s job as seeing the world around them and translating that world onto canvas for others. Painting in a realistic genre means learning the scientific nature of things and distrusting what the eye simplifies for the mind. He enjoys teaching people to see this as he does, and helping them to understand the intricacies that will allow them to paint and draw on their own for years to come.
