Gardening with a Farmer

Are you interested in growing plants, but not sure how to start? Have you gardened a little and want to sharpen your skills? Are you a seasoned grower of many years and still have questions? Ask a farmer!

Discussions will include:

  • The world of gardening from a farmer’s viewpoint

  • Basic comprehension of plants: purpose, requirements, and benefits

  • What makes good soil? (Bring a sample of your dirt!)

  • Organic vs. hydroponics

  • Outdoor and indoor gardening

  • How to get started with very few resources

 

About the teacher:

Scott Brown is co-proprietor of Brown Dirt Farm, a small vegetable operation outside of Whitwell, Tennessee which practices chemical-free agriculture. After many years of work and planning, Scott and Brooke Brown first planted their farm in the summer of 2012 while working other jobs. As of 2014 they are full-time farmers. Brown Dirt Farm emphasizes growing fruits and vegetables with only good soil, sunshine, and fresh air, the basic needs of all plants.

Jazzanooga, created in 2011 as a citywide celebration of jazz, is a community initiative that not only draws from the cultural relevance and history of our city and its residents, but also provides a festive platform where diverse communities can gather and celebrate Chattanooga’s extraordinary jazz heritage.
